Professor Xuejun Yang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, The PLA National Defense University

High-Performance Computing Systems in China

Biography: Xuejun Yang is a computer expert and a professor in National University of Defense Technology. He was born in Wucheng, Shandong Province in April 1963, and his ancestral home is also Wucheng, Shandong Province. He received his BS degree from Nanjing communication Engineering Institute, MS and PhD degree from National University of Defense Technology, in 1983, 1985, and 1990 respectively. He was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011.

Prof. Yang has long been dedicated to the research of high-performance computer architecture and system software. As the chief designer, he has taken charge of five types of high-performance computers, and Tianhe-1A, which was ranked No.1 in the TOP500 list in 2010. He proposed the high-performance computing integrating CPU and stream processor, and further presented the efficiency optimization approach. Prof. Yang obtained the top level achievements in scalable shared memory architecture and 80-bit extended precision floating-point computing. He also achieved breakthrough in rapid deployment and reliability technology of high-performance parallel computer to meet the need of battlefield. Prof. Yang has won first class State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, second class State Technological Invention Award, Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Achievement Award, and others.
